Celebrating the Effort: Recognizing the Winners Despite Race Disqualification

Updated: Nov 24

On August 25, 2024, our community came together for two races in Sparks, NV—Race A and Race B. Despite the disqualification of both races due to concerns about the release process, it’s important to recognize the outstanding performances of those who excelled under the same conditions.

Race A Winners:

Fernando’s exceptional effort saw him place 1st through 7th, while Joe secured 8th to 11th positions, and Ferdinand took 12th to 15th.

Race B Winners:

Fernando again showed his prowess with 1st, 4th, and 5th positions. Carranza Loft, placed 2nd, 3rd, and 12th, with Joe Neves taking 6th.

Acknowledging the Challenges

Unfortunately, both races were disqualified due to several questionable factors. Our combine officers conducted a thorough investigation, reviewing basketing lists, video footage, and crate allocations. The truck driver, new to this responsibility, did not follow the release instructions correctly, leading to mix-ups between Race A and Race B birds and trainers.

While this outcome is disappointing, especially for those who put in the hard work to secure a win, it’s crucial to remember that everyone competed under the same circumstances. The efforts and victories achieved by Fernando, Joe, Ferdinand, and others should still be recognized and celebrated.

As Dave Endres mentioned, while we may have to disqualify the combine races, there’s nothing standing in our way to recognize the winners at the club level. Everyone flew under the same conditions, and although unfortunate, a win is a win. The efforts of Fernando, Joe, Ferdinand, and others should be acknowledged and celebrated by the club, ensuring that their hard work does not go unnoticed.

Our combine race secretary made the difficult decision to disqualify both races to maintain the integrity of our sport. We appreciate the transparency and dedication of everyone involved in resolving these issues. As we move forward with a clean slate in Fernley, let’s continue to support each other and celebrate the passion that drives us in this sport.
